Unexpected Success for Law for Change at the LexisNexis Legal Awards 2025
Last Thursday, Law for Change had the pleasure of attending the 2025 LexisNexis Legal Awards, where our founder, Stephen Kinsella, was nominated for Legal Personality of the Year. The event was a fantastic opportunity for key figures in the legal industry to connect and celebrate each other’s work.
However, unexpected success in the Case of the Year category has reaffirmed the far-reaching impact of Law for Change’s funding and its ability to drive meaningful social change. Law for Change had stakes in both the winning case - R on the application of A (Syria ) and others (Cross) v Secretary of State [2023] UKSC 42 - and the highly commended case of Finch v Surrey County Council [2024] UKSC 20.
R A (Syria) v Secretary of State was the key Supreme Court ruling on the unlawfulness of the Rwanda Policy. Although Law for Change did not directly fund this case, we had supported the previous Asylum Aid Court of Appeal challenge to the procedural fairness of the policy. This case established key points on procedural fairness, which were crucial to the Supreme Court’s assessment of the lawfulness of the Rwanda Policy.
Law for Change also had direct involvement with the highly commended case of Finch, providing critical financial support to sustain the legal fight in its final stages.
A huge thank you to LexisNexis for an incredible evening, and congratulations to all the winners !
